Butler Auto Recyclig Credits Associations

Butler Auto Recycling contributes much of its success to association involvement.

"Any time you get together...You get fresh input. It's been very helpful for us," says Jim Butler, who owns the Pensacola, Fla. recycling facility with his parents, Jack and Ruth Butler.

The company, which has been involved in the recycling business since 1977, belongs to the Automotive Recyclers Association, the Florida Auto Dismantlers and Recyclers Association, and the Better Business Bureau.

From meetings to conventions to facility tours, Butler said his company has learned a great deal from other businesses in the industry.

Butler Auto Recycling, which employs approximately 35, sits on five and a half acres and dismantles about 1,200 vehicles each year. Most of the company's inventory consists of late-model trucks and sport utility vehicles. It offers a 90-day standard warranty, but six-month and one-year warranties are also available. Butler Auto delivers within a 200 mile radius and thanks to increased Internet usage, it also ships worldwide.

Butler said his goal for the company's future is to refine what it's been doing. "I want to improve quality, not quantity," he said.
